SmartWood evaluates and certifies forestry operations that meet the international environmental standards of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).  SmartWood certification is voluntary and is open to producers of all forest products.  The two types of certification: forest management certification and chain-of-custody certification, are options for forestland owners, managers, primary and secondary manufacturers, and wholesalers.  SmartWood uses a consistent and credible framework for third-party forest certification that supports forestry meeting the highest standards for environmental and social responsibility.  In fact, SmartWood is responsible for certifying a million acres in the Northeastern United States, including Vermont Family Forests in Addison County.

The Forest Certification Resource Center.  The "Certified forest products" link from their home page lets you search for specific products within a specific state of other geographical region.
