Governor's Table Update:

After a review of 50+ designs, one has been chosen. A sketch has been made as well as a full size shadow of the end table profile, and a 2"=1' scale model. (See cover). These items will soon be forwarded to the State for their review and approval. The elm, from the State House lawn, will be sawn and will take about 90 days to dry, per John Hurely and we are working with Shelburne Farms to provide FSC-certified ash. With the State design approval, work can begin. The tables, two will be built, each 92" x 46" x 29", will be delivered by the end of the summer. Many thanks to those involved in the design and soon to be building of the tables. With support from the Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund, fund raising efforts to pay for the tables will begin in early summer with $500-$5000 donations solicited. Please contact Kelly Ault at 223-5256 x13 for a fundraising packet.

Certification Opportunity:

Support healthy forests and communities, and gain new markets! The National Wildlife Federation invites your participation in a market study of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified wood product development. NWF will pay for two years a portion of the direct costs for your business to obtain and hold FSC "chain of custody" wood product certification from SmartWood. We are now seeking eight participants, on a "first come, first serve" basis. A question and answer session will be held the first week of May for interested individuals. Please contact Mark Lorenzo at NWF if you are interested at 229-0650; lorenzo@nwf.org or Nils Shenholm at 244-6460 or Jim McCarthy at 862-5642.
